Applesauce is easy to make at home. To start you’ll need 5 pounds of apples, today we use 6 different kinds.
Ingredients
- 5 pounds apples: a combination of McIntosh, Golden Delicious, Granny Smith, Fuji, and Jonathan
- 1/2 cup water
- 2 tablespoons lemon juice
- 1 (3-inch) cinnamon sticks
Optional add Ins:
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
Directions
I have a couple of Honey Crisp, a Granny Smith, a Golden Delicious, a Fuji, a couple of Brae burns, and a couple of Pink Ladies.
These need to be diced, so we like to slice 2 slices off of each side of the apple, and you can see we just rotated it around and then we left with the core which we can discard, and then we can take each piece and dice up the apples.
Once you have all of those diced up the hard part is over. Transfer all of your diced apples to a large pot. Now you can do this on the stovetop.
You can do it in an instant pot which will take about minutes of pressure, or in a slow cooker which will take 3-4 hours on high.
Then pour in 1 juiced lemon, so about 1/4 cup, and 1 cup of water, then we’ll pop a lid on the pan and take this over to the stove and we’ll turn the heat on and bring that water to a boil.
Once it comes to a boil reduce the heat to low and let it simmer for minutes until the apples are soft. After minutes your apples will be nice and tender.
And you can either leave it chunky you can puree it in a blender, food processor, or using an immersion blender.
We use a Vitamix blender. Start the blender at its slowest speed, and then quickly increase to its highest speed, using the tamper to press ingredients toward the blades. Blend for 1 minute.
If you prefer chunkier style applesauce, turn to Variable 6 instead of the highest speed and blend.
Now at this point, you have regular unsweetened applesauce, and you can leave it at that or we have some additional options.
If you want to sweeten applesauce, add 1/2 cup to 2/3 a cup of brown sugar. Stir that in and let it simmer for about minutes.
Then for a little more dessert option, you can add in 3 tablespoons of butter, 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract, and 3/4 teaspoon of cinnamon, and just stir this until the butter is melted and that’s it. You can eat it right away while it’s still warm or transfers it to the fridge where it’ll stay good for up to 2 weeks.

Easy Homemade Applesauce With The Help of Pot

It’s really simple delicious and healthy so what you’re to need for this recipe is, of course, a pot and then add your apples we use about a bagful so what we’ll probably do is mix some of the apples with the apples in the bowl and then you’re also to need some cinnamon and add the juice of one lemon so let’s go ahead and get started so the first thing we to do is take all the juice from that one lemon that we just juiced and we put it in our pot.
Ingredients
- Apples
- A teaspoon cinnamon
- Lemon juice
- Sugar
Directions
We just peel all apples and then when we are done peeling them we will pour them lemon juice and add about half a cup of water now we have all our apples peeled diced and cored and all mixed in with the lemon juice.
We are to put that now and this helps in our opinion just make it hope it condensed until the natural juices start to break down and now we are to add the cinnamon we add about a teaspoon but if you are using any fewer apples than this then we would also suggest a half a teaspoon we like a lot of cinnamon so a teaspoon.
The recipe below we’ll probably write a half a teaspoon put that now we are just giving it a good stir so that’s all stirred and ready to go we just put our top on it and we this too high for about six to eight hours.
After a couple of hours and use our measure our potato masher and if we can mash any of it up and we’ll just continue doing it every couple of or so hours every time we check on it, okay so it’s been about three hours. We check they’re really soft it still needs to cook down though.
After it’s all cooked down it’s like caramelized all the sugar has or the natural sugars in the apples and it just looks really good. We’ve got to cool this off before we put it in the fridge so that was done. Store in a bottle container and we’re to try it that’s good much better than the store button stuff.

You want to start off with is a sweeter variety of apple we are a huge fan of Honey depending on you know the quantity or making if you’re doing just a few small servings we tend to prefer to leave the peel on because about of apples the nutritional content will be in the peel so if you peel it you’re removing.
Ingredients
- Apples
- Honey
- Water
Directions
So many beneficial nutrients for your child so one of the big things that you want to focus on when you’re slicing to steam the apples is to try to uniformly slice them so they cook evenly so you know every chunk will be slightly different but if they’re more or less the same size then they will cook evenly once they’re in the steamer.
Apples are really fantastic they’re one of the highest sources of fiber that you can find for children if you do have a child that’s having constipation issues this is a really great food to offer them to keep the system moving along to speak we have 3 apples sliced.
We’re put into the steam basket and the reason that we prefer to steam is that it will retain the most amount of nutrients for your child versus roasting or boiling so we’ll add these apples to our steamer and then we’re to give it about 4 to 5 minutes until it’s fork-tender alright so now that our apples have been steaming about 4 to 5 minutes.
we use a slotted spoon and a regular just table fork to test the softness we are good to go now that they’re fork-tender.
We’ll add them to the high-speed food processor or blender come as well and depending on the apple of varietals like a red delicious are probably going to come out a little bit watery or so you want to strain off any excess water are galas so they tend to have a little less water in them so will not have an issue with excess water when you are preparing purees.
We tend to start on the thicker side so you want to take out a lot of the extra water because it’s always much easier to send them down than it is to thicken them back up and as your baby grows they’ll tend to prefer the thicker as opposed to the thin.
So we’ll just flip on the blender and blend for about seconds. now that twenty-thirty seconds have gone by we’re down to a nice smooth consistency and just portion it out into your serving.
